Welcome to Hartside Nursery Garden

The family run nursery was established in 1975 and specialises in propagating, growing and selling some of the rarely offered hardy plants from around the world.

The wide range of old and new species and varieties includes Alpines, Primulas, Spring and Autumn Flowering Gentians, Rock Garden Plants, Dwarf Conifers, Dwarf Rhododendrons, and Hardy Ferns. We have something for everyone, from the beginner to the specialist.

The Nursery is situated on the scenic A686 Alston to Penrith Road, one and a half miles from Alston. If you would like instructions on how to find us click here.

During this extraordinary period we have reduced our UK Mail Order Charges to £6.00 for 5 plants or more and offer an extra special reduced rate of £3.00 if you just want up  to 4 plants delivered to your door to save going out of the house – but it shouldn’t stop you going out and enjoying some new plants in your garden. (Not including the Highlands and Islands and Northern Ireland for which we will use the best possible service)

Orders to most EU countries are still possible as we are fully Plant Passport Compliant and these orders for up to 30 plants can be sent for about £18.00 packing and postage, these postage rates include parcels to the Highlands and Islands and Northern Ireland.
