Welcome to Hartside Nursery Garden

The family run nursery was established in 1975 and specialises in propagating, growing and selling some of the rarely offered hardy plants from around the world.

The wide range of old and new species and varieties includes Alpines, Primulas, Spring and Autumn Flowering Gentians, Rock Garden Plants, Dwarf Conifers, Dwarf Rhododendrons, and Hardy Ferns. We have something for everyone, from the beginner to the specialist.

The Nursery will be open in 2024 on the Weekends of 27th – 28th April; 25th – 26th May; 29th – 30th June; 27th – 28th July; 24th – 25th August, September 21st – 22nd and the 19th – 20th October.

We will be open 11.30am – 4.00pm on our “Open Days”

At all other times by Appointment – please give several days notice. A list of the plants you are looking for is helpful before you arrive.

The rich lavender-blue flowers appearing above the heavily silvered foliage in the early spring, sometimes now soon after the new year. Ghyll Burn Cottage and Barn End have been renovated to a high standard. Ghyll Burn Cottage (sleeps 4/6) retains its old world charm with wooden beams and an old stairway turret with a slit window. Barn End (sleeps 3/4) is a charming Barn Conversion with wooden beams in the main living room

Located high in the North Pennines, the cottages are an ideal base for walking, cycling, touring, watching wildlife or just relaxing.
